Amitav Ghosh on 23rd March 2015 emerged as the only Indian author among 10 finalists for this year’s Man Booker International Prize for his contribution to English language writing.
About Amitav Ghosh
- Amitav Ghosh is a Bengali Indian author best known for his work in English fiction.
- His First job was in Indian Express in New Delhi.
- Ghosh is the author of The Circle of Reason (his 1986 debut novel) which won Prix Médicis étranger.
- He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 2007.
About Man Booker International Prize
- It is an international literary award given every two years to a living author of any nationality for a body of work published in English or generally available in English translation.
- The introduction of the International Prize was announced in June 2004
- This Prize is sponsored by the Man Group,
- The award is worth £60,000 and an author can only win once.
- The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan won the 2014 Man Booker International Prize.
